A 200,000-year-old prefrontal cortex processing a 2026 information stream doesn’t just feel exhausting, it is metabolically exhausting. This is why long strategy sessions feel physically draining, and why decision quality degrades over the course of the day.
In the spirit of Andrew Huberman’s research on directed attention fatigue: the brain is excellent at filtering signal from noise, until prolonged cognitive load exhausts that system.
We are hitting that threshold.
The modern trap is using high-cost System 2 to verify what AI produces with zero metabolic effort. If you spend your day reviewing every sentence a language model generates, you aren’t leading. You’re stuck in the gray zone of execution - prompting, reviewing, formatting, correcting - while the machine sets the pace.
That loop is the Cognitive Ceiling.
